Good little book, 4.5 stars

I have an interest in ethno botany , which grew from my fascination with folklore and folk life. I wanted to read a book on all the religious and 'folkloric' uses of mistletoe,and I was amazed to discover there are no books (that I could find) on the subject. There are books on ginseng, mandrake, and on fly amanita from that angle , but none for mistletoe. Even though mistletoe has the richest socio/cultural history of all plants and fungi associated with folklore and folk life!
This book is only available on kindle, which is a pity . I think it would have been a pretty decent Christmastime seller in a glossy page small hardbound or TPB, illustrated, and packaged with a sprig of real mistletoe. (I've seen real mistletoe sold that way-this site even sells stick on 'mistletoe on the go', so why not?)
Because of my interest in mistletoe, I've read everything about this parasite that I could find, in books devoted to folklore and mythology. This book covers all the basics-druids, Roman mythology (Aeneas, Golden Bough) , Norse mythology (Balder) , folklife usage of mistletoe, a bit of natural history of mistletoe, a bit on modern scientific applications of mistletoe... The author even includes The Mistletoe Bough, one of the creepiest poems of all time, in the small section on mistletoe in popular culture. Everything matches up well with what I've read before, and I found only one error ("thunder bosoms" instead of thunder besoms, and the word besom is used correctly later in the book, so I know the 'bosoms' was a typo rather than a mistake).
It is a useful little compendium of all mistletoe lore, a quick read written in clear concise language. I wish it had been footnoted and had included a bibliography, but as it is, the book is well worth the mistletoe enthusiast's time and money.
