What others are saying:
“Lean is not mean. It is the coming style of good management. Paul Akers explains how the system blurs the distinction – and soothes the frictions – between labor and management by enlisting the brainpower of all employees from the top to the bottom. Under Lean we are all management whether in the private or the public sector, Karl Marx would never have approved!”
~Dick Morris, author of 8 New York Times Best Sellers, Fox News political analyst
“Paul Akers has built FastCap into an industry leader and one of the most exciting manufacturing companies in America. His innovative, thoroughly American use of Lean manufacturing principles and techniques has made him a top expert who is in high demand to speak to and teach his secrets to all kinds of organizations, from factories to hospitals to office environments. On my visit to FastCap, Paul’s employees showed me several examples of how they have employed the 2 Second Lean principle to save time and money – usually saving a lot more than just two seconds! I’m a believer, and have incorporated many of Paul’s strategies and principles into my own office’s CQI process, helping me empower and motivate more than one thousand legal professionals and support staff to save our clients and taxpayers millions of dollars.”

Simple, effective advise for the small shop
By Nate Lowrie
I run a small 2 person shop making CNC machines. You would think we would be highly efficient since our specialty is automation, but we were struggling. Production time was so long and we always felt that we were behind and would never catch up. Then one day I stumbled upon Paul's company FastCap while looking for a saw hood. He had a link to his book but more importantly had a boatload of videos (see [...]) on what lean looks like at his company. Watching those videos, it was evident that a lot of these things I could apply to my production process. I ordered the book in an audiobook format.
The book isn't so much about the processes of continual improvement (which is what I thought I was after). It is about the culture of growing people and turning people into problem solvers. Paul has simplified a rather complex process down into a simple phrase: "Identify what bugs you and fix it." This simplicity has allow me, a chronically dis-organized guy with inventory, production, and customer service problems, to turn my business around dramatically in such a short period of time.
I have people tell me all the time that lean can't work in a small shop. Well, it has I am proving it...

How to create a fun lean culture.
By C. Libolt
If your a seasoned "lean pro" or your just a "lean pup" you will benefit from this instructional masterpiece. Paul Akers will take you on his company's journey from learning about lean to creating a culture that grows people and has fun doing it. Each page, picture and QR code (that take you to a library of how-to videos) will exhibit his passion for a safer, simpler & faster environment. The concept of making a "2 second improvement" a day has propelled his once small company into a major product development company that creates and ships millions of dollars worth of innovative products a year. This is not a book that you will read only once.

I thought this was a great book written in a style all of us can understand
By Jason
Good book that really focuses people on kaizen. Often, in the corporate world, everyone does huge value-stream improvement projects and we do not focus on how small, continuous improvement can add up to huge improvements. I like how Paul talks about people development and teamwork too. Everyone at his business is involved in continuous improvement and he keeps the culture strong through constant communication and morning meetings.
Paul really gets it in a Toyota kind of way. Having previously worked at Toyota in auto manufacturing I would certainly recommend this book to anyone looking to build lean culture at their workplace. Please remember, it's all about people development. As knowledge is gained and shared, projects and impact can get bigger and better too.
